As the 2009 Coastal Plain League season draws near, the Columbia Blowfish already have an exciting season in store both on and off the field. The Blowfish are bringing back many of the fan favorite promotions from 2008. Some of 2009's biggest promotions will be food & beverage specials, starting with Opening Night where Discount Beverage Night returns every Wednesday home game. $1.00 12oz Suds and Sodas from 6-8pm. Palmetto Health's "Good Seats for Good Samaritans is sponsoring 4 charitable nights at the ballpark this season. Friday, June 12-Harvest Hope- non perishable foods and dry goods or toiletries or $1 or more cash donation ($1 gets them 10 pounds of food) Friday, June 26-American Red Cross-Toiletries such as soap, mouthwash, deodorant, tooth brushes, toothpaste, feminine products and shampoo Thursday, July 16-Harvest Hope-non perishable foods and dry goods or toiletries or $1 or more cash donation ($1 gets them 10 pounds of food) Saturday, August 1-benefiting local schools-School supplies: packs of paper, pens, pencils, rulers, folders.
On Saturday June 13th the Blowfish and Alala look to help "Strike out Cancer" with Little Leaguer Night. A portion of ticket proceeds will go to help fight cancer as Blowfish players will be wearing different color ribbons symbolizing all forms of cancer that needs to be defeated! Fireworks will first boom over Capital City Stadium on Saturday June 6th, as the Blowfish take on the Thomasville Hi Toms on the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce and the Blowfish present Fort Jackson Night at the Blowfish & 234th Birthday Salute to the Army with a post game fireworks show. In addition July 3rd and 4th Independence Fireworks return both Friday July 3rd, when the Blowfish host the USC Alumni Baseball team for the third year in a row. The series is all tied up 1-1 so this should be quite a battle for the "GameFish" Traveling Trophy. A patriotic "Concert in the Sky" on Saturday night when the Blowfish take on the Asheboro Copperheads at "The Cap".T he Blowfish look to pay homage to our veterans of the armed forces and honor WW II Honor Flight veterans. Fans are encouraged to come out and enjoy a great game with those who have served our country! Fans can look forward to many of the weekly specials in the ballpark this year as Guaranteed Win Mondays and Tuesday Family Feast Nights return. During Guaranteed Win Mondays, the Blowfish guarantee a win or fans receive a complimentary ticket to the next Monday home game. On Family Feast Nights, hot dogs, 12 oz. Pepsi Cola products, ice cream sandwiches will be available for a dollar from 6-8pm with the purchase of a regular priced ticket. Discount Beverage Night continues every Wednesday and Thirsty Thursday is back with the special beverage price of 2 for $3.00. Fridays fans have a chance to win Atlanta Braves tickets, Saturdays play catch with the Blowfish Players on the field before the game and Sundays "Kids of all Ages" get to run the bases post game. Blowie the Blowfish will also be returning this year every home game during the 2009 season Another great event will include tributes to local and national heroes. Saturday June 27th is Hometown Heroes Night, paying tribute to local men and women in the police and fire departments and EMTs. In our communities. There are also a few themed nights planned at "The Cap" such as '80s Night, College Nights and Irish Heritage Night and "Bark in the Park"-bring your dog to the ballpark on Sunday July 12th. Tickets for all Blowfish home games start at just 5.00 for Adults and $4.00 for Kids, Students with ID, Seniors and Military with ID. The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 13th season, the CPL is the largest summer league in the country, featuring 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with wooden bats during the summer months. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts.
